Dept.56 NEWS

I just received a letter stating that Dept. 56 will be cutting back including Christmas, Halloween , Easter, and more, Boy I don't know what they are going to do. I buy most of our items from them, and now I will have to find another company that has great Holiday items.

This is really getting bad. My store is down about 3/4 of what we had last year. I don't even get the people in to look.

Busy Time Of The Year

We have been doing Halloween open house, and we just decorated at the YMCA for a youth Halloween trail. It's raining but I don't think they will care. It will be fun.

Ready For Christmas Convention

Time is here and were getting ready for the Golden Glow Christmas Convention in Lancaster, Penn.

This is such a wonderful group of people, all ready to answer questions, share their treasure from years gone by.

Getting Things Together

Still working on getting things to gether for the convention, I'm trying to find my stuff. Did you ever try to find something that you knew you had but just couldn't remember just where you put it. Well that's what I'm trying to do. I guess that's why my grown children are tell me that I need to get rid of some of my things.

I found some old records --not Christmas-- but small 33 1/3 ones and I'm putting them on my site on go antiques. I thought that if I put them away again I would forget.

Hope you get a chance to clear out some of your things , in the long run it does make you feel better.

Getting Ready For Convention.

This has been quite a week. I have been thinking about what to take to the Golden Glow Convention this year. It's a holiday collectible & mostly Antique holiday items. With lots of great people and we learn something new every year. This will be out 14Th year.

Bats Or Batman?

Are you waiting for the Batman Movie? My Grandson started saving them when he was 3 now he's 17.What a collection. If you enjoy Batman or Bats we have Spinner Bat Ornaments and Glass Blown Bats. Are you a collector of Batman?

Saturday at the store

I have the store open on Saturdays until Sept. 1st. When it gets really busy. So yesterday I was putting out more Halloween and changing the displays, with Hugh spiders and ornaments. I also got in some really cute snowmen candy and cookie jars. Snowmen are great because you can keep them out longer and by us that is from Oct. to May or June some years.

This is July and it's not Christmas yet but I had some repeat customers come in and they were getting ready for Christmas, buying ornament for the grand kids. It's nice to see the same people return year after year and to find out what's been happening in their lives.

More Halloween & Russian Ornaments

Today I put up more Halloween Pumpkins really big from Dept. 56 and Beautiful Russian Ornaments. These Russian ornaments are all hand done in assorted sizes and this year they have ornaments that are cut out (like little diamonds) you can see right through them. They do a fantastic job on painting.

Radko News!

I just heard that KMART will be having Radko Ornaments Called ( Celebrations By Radko).
Yes Affordable-- Boxed set will be about $7.99 and $9.99 for the Figurals. We'll see what happens. I don't carry his line because it was to expensive. Maybe Now.

Fun Stuff

I was at the store yesterday and started to put away some of the new stuff that came in. The Halloween is so cool. We got eyeballs, big pumpkins with faces and little ones. Halloween headbands for the ladies, with spiders, webs and feathers on them. My daughter and I love these. Dept. 56 has some really neat things for Halloween this year, so we decided to have a Halloween open house instead of the one we usually have right after Thanksgiving. My husband does all of the cookie baking and he is already looking for Halloween recipes. If you have any good ones, let me know. I would appreciate it. Thanks. We even got in some Gingerbread -Not to Eat- Ornaments some are little bells and the others are a resin and we even have hand-blown glass ones. This is the fun part, we order early in the year and when the boxes come it's just like Christmas opening them up.

New Items coming in. What to do ?

I Just received boxes of the merchandise and now I'm wondering if maybe I shouldn't have ordered so much. We -that is my daughter and I go to the shows in Jan. and March and order what we like and think our customers will like. Now that it's here I start second guessing myself. What if they don't like what we have and then I have ornaments and decorations that I really have to mark way down . Sometimes I start to think should I continue with this or just sell everything and be done. Maybe next year.

Holiday Colecting

I would like to know if people are still collecting for the holidays or has our economy hurt our love for the holidays?
